Bulgakov

The play opens on the scene of an unexpected guest arriving suddenly in the malestrom of a raging blizzard of star anise, caraway seeds and Russian lavender. The effect is deceptive, it implies the warm simplicity of peasant comforts; a bubbling cauldron of beet soup, fresh-baked rye bread and the snapping blast of Arctic winds screaming at the doors and windows. What transpires however, is a mysterious adventure of wondrous fantasies and dreams. Behold as opulent bouquets of red roses and trailing jasmine appear, and you find yourself hypnotised; intoxicated by the honeyed amber liqueur of styrax absolute, labdanum and vanilla, suffused with the lavish leather of Vietnamese oud, emblematic of the many shields we use to safeguard our tender frailties against all odds.
