Mum (Chrysanthemum) Lung (a bon mot of Dragon in Cantonese/Mandarin) is a celebration of 2024: The year of the wood dragon. Much like Hainan Fougere, released last summer, Mum Lung is a sort of “Chinese fusion” perfume, however, where Hainan Fougere was really a classic French perfume with flourishes of Chinese influence (Hainan oud, various tea, bamboo absolute, and a Chinese rose,) Mum Lung resides squarely centered in the culture of the Chinese lunar new year, and broader Chinese perfume trends.
Mum Lung utilizes real Chinese flowers: Chrysanthemum from China, Rose from China, and a peach blossom accord that mimics the elusive scent. On display is also a wild Chinese oud that wasn’t CO2 extracted by a biotech company: A real deal hydro distilled wild Hainan.
A complex array of whitish-pinkish floral tonalities, Mum Lung is loaded with Iris, jasmines, vintage peony, Orange blossom, and spicy Kuro Kurounde. At its base is a home-made cafe-amber co-absolute and plenty of deer musk.
